As the dispatching center in network architecture, core network is in charge of distributing data. EPC (Evolved Packet Core) is composed of MME, S-GW, P-GW, PCRF, HSS and relevant network elements.
Based on the principle of separating control plane and user plane, 5GC (5G Core Network) comprises AMF, UPF, SMF, AUSF and relevant network elements, introducing NSSF, NEF, NRF and relevant new network elements.
UPF (User Plane Function), the network element in user plane, takes the place of S-GW and P-GW to transmitting and routing in user plane. Combined with MEC (Multi access Edge Computing), deploying UPF closed to user plane can provide large bandwidth, low latency, real-time data forwarding services.
The network architecture of 5GC is flexible enough to deploy UPF sinking scheme. It can adapt to the high standard requirements of new services such as vehicle-to-everything, HD video and so on.
How to forwarding data with subunits of UPF?
1. Verify the compliance of services with PCF (Policy Control Function), and decide relevant policy control schemes.
2. SMF (Service Management Function) will monitor and operate the elastic load and detailed location of UPF as well as the location of subscribers. It can help to choose the suitable UPF subunits to forward data.
